Family Programs Hawaii’s Resource Families Support Services provides support to resource caregivers, aka foster families, and providers in Hawaii.
Social Support for Service Providers
Parents with a network of supportive family and friends find that it is easier to care for their children and to care for themselves. Evidence shows that parents need people they can call, even just occasionally, when in need of a sympathetic ear, for transportation, or occasional child care. A parent’s supportive relationships can model positive social interactions for their children as well as give their children access to other supportive adults. Sometimes those relationships may need to be developed. Have you or your clients seen the recently released movie “Finding ‘Ohana,” filmed on Oahu, where a family discovers relationships they did not think they could count on?
This section will help providers share resources for families and gives recommendations to parents on how to build new supportive relationships.
